DESCRIPTION:Baltimore After Freddie Gray\nSaturday\, April 13\, Noon to  3 pm\n \nFACTUALITY Board Game\nNoon\nFACTUALITY is a facilitated dialogue\, crash course\, and board game\, all in one\, that simulates real life experiences in Baltimore allowing for a courageous conversation about structural inequality. It is played with a rich group of diverse characters  that encounter a series of fact based advantages and limitations based on the intersection of their race\, gender\, sexual orientation\, faith\, and class… with a focus on Baltimore statistics.  FACTUALITY allows participants to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. This game event is facilitated by  game creator Natalie Gilliard.  A book talk & Signing of Baltimore After Freddie Gray with Sean Yoes will take place at 2 pm following the game session.\n\n\n\nBook Talk & Signing: Baltimore After Freddie Gray with Sean Yoes  \n2 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is the definitive chronicle of the three years since the Uprising of April 2015\, sparked by the death of Freddie Carlos Gray\, Jr.\, while in the custody of the Baltimore Police Department (BPD)\, April 19\, 2015. Baltimore After Freddie Gray\, goes beyond the sensational headlines connected to the findings of the searing Department of Justice report on the BPD\, the nefarious deeds of the disgraced Gun Trace Task Force and the murder of Baltimore Homicide Det. DESCRIPTION:This film explores the history of American jazz in Baltimore as well as  the current state of Baltimore’s jazz scene.  Visitors will view footage of jazz greats Eubie Blake\, Chick Webb\, Billie Holiday\, Ethel Ennis and more.  The film challenges the idea that “Baltimore’s jazz scene died along with the Royal Theatre and Pennsylvania Ave.” Instead\, the film demonstrates that the city is still producing amazing culture and jazz with musicians like Gary Bartz\, Cyrus Chestnut\, Dontae Winslow\, Lafayette Gilchrist and Warren Wolf Jr.  A post discussion with film producer Jeff Finch\, jazz personality Gary Ellerbe and local musicians will follow. SUMMARY:Raised in the System: Film Screening & Discussion with Michael K. Williams
DESCRIPTION:Actor and producer Michael K. Williams (Omar Little from The Wire\, Chalky White from Boardwalk Empire) brings his HBO VICE documentary\, “Raised in the System” to the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of African American History at 6 PM. \nWilliams will screen his one-hour documentary on the people impacted by the juvenile justice system. “Raised in the System” takes viewers inside detention facilities\, where Williams speaks directly with juveniles about their pathways into the system. Williams also talks with incarcerated adults about how their experiences as juveniles contributed to their adult incarceration. The film also explores alternative models of juvenile justice—in places like Toledo\, Ohio\, and Richmond\, California—that offer more hope for rehabilitation instead of incarceration. \nThe event will also include a post-screening conversation with Michael K. Williams\, Williams’ nephew Dominic Dupont\, one of the subjects featured in the documentary who received clemency from New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo after over 21 years of incarceration for a crime he committed at the age of 17\, and Tara Huffman\, director of OSI’s Criminal and Juvenile Justice Program. The conversation will be moderated by Dana Rachlin\, the founder and executive director of NYC Together\, a social justice organization taking a unique approach to interrupting the school to prison pipeline in partnership with the NYPD. \nAs we work to better the lives of all our citizens\, the Mayor’s Office of African American Male Engagement\, Open Society Institute-Baltimore\, and Reginald F.
