DESCRIPTION:Story Reading and Puppet Show: “Callaloo: The Trickster and the Magic Quilt”  \nJoin Callaloo Kids in a  live story reading and an award-winning puppetry performance on their new book release written by Marjuan Canady and illustrated by Nabeeh Bilal. In search of a long lost patch from her grandmother’s quilt\, Zoe and her friend Winston travel to the Gullah Sea Islands where they meet the slick-talking Bruh Rabbit\, who tricks them into handing over their quilt and vanishes to the magical island of Sankofaland. With time running out\, Zoe and Winston enlist the help of some new friends to catch the trickster and find the missing patch before it’s too late.   \nAppropriate for Ages 3-7.   \nIncluded with Museum Admission.

DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with Remnants of Hatred: Slavery Artifacts of Today Exhibition\, we present another Genealogy Program\, entitled “There is Something About Edgefield Shining a Light on the Black Community through History Genealogy & Genetic DNA” by Edna Gail Bush and Natonne Elaine Kemp \nThrough their ancestors stories\, family historians Bush and Kemp take us on a compelling journey through African American history using genealogical research. The community is Edgefield\, South Carolina\, where an enslaved maternal line is traced to 1799.  Follow the authors through years of meticulous genealogical research and DNA testing as they reclaim their family stories and inspire others to embark on their own family journeys.  \nA book signing will follow with Natonne Elaine Kemp.
