DESCRIPTION:Talks and Thoughts Series: Blackface and Its Legacy \nSunday\, Feb 17\, 2 pm – 4 pm \n(Photo Credit: Ethnic Notions\, 1987) – From Today Show former Host Megyn Kelly’s defense of Blackface worn for Halloween costumes to the recent scandal of Virginia’s Governor’s use of Blackface in college\, Blackface is rearing its ugly head.  Join the Reginald F. Lewis Museum in a conversation on the legacy of Blackface moderated by WEAA 88.9 FM Today with Dr. Kaye radio talk show host Kaye Wise Whitehead. Karsonya (Kaye) Wise Whitehead is an Associate Professor of Communication and African American Studies at Loyola University Maryland and the award-winning author of Notes from a Colored Girl: The Civil War Pocket Diaries of Emilie Frances Davis. She is a featured Public Commentator for WYPR and Op-Ed columnist for the Baltimore Sun. \nPrior to the discussion\, the museum will screen the Emmy-winning documentary Ethnic Notions (57 minutes) that takes viewers on a disturbing voyage through American history\, tracing the deep-rooted stereotypes which have fueled anti-black prejudice. \nEthnic Notions Film Screening @ 2 pm \nTalks and Thoughts Discussion @ 3 pm \nIncluded with Museum Admission. \nLet us know you are coming.
